Not every job needs a professional. Here's how we'd decide if we were in your shoes.
When DIY is perfectly fine
- Simple, low items: a bedside table, a small shelf unit, a basic desk
- You have time, patience and a cordless drill
- Nothing needs to be fixed to the wall
When it's worth calling a pro
- Tall or heavy furniture that needs anchoring (PAX, large wardrobes)
- Sliding doors and anything that needs precise levelling
- Kitchens and built-in appliances
- When your weekend is worth more than the cost of the work
The real cost of mistakes
Chipboard doesn't forgive. A stripped cam lock, an over-tightened hinge, or a panel assembled in the wrong order sometimes can't be fixed — then you need a replacement part and have to wait for it. The couple of hours you saved can turn into a week's wait plus the cost of a professional repair on top.
The rule is simple: if an item is tall, expensive, or going on the wall, get it right the first time. Everything else — enjoy the build.
